On 22/11/16 we had further rehearsals for our We Will Rock You showcase at Durrington High School. The plans for the lesson was to split into separate groups in terms of our songs and work on rehearsing them and discussing ideas and plans for each other. I worked with Izzy, and we worked on Another One Bites The Dust. At first we discussed splitting the song and working on interacting with each other, but not drawing attention from the rest of the ensemble who would be performing a dance to the song at this point.
We practised the song with music at first but then discussed the issue of the fact that we were copying how the singer on the track was singing the song, and this wasn't making it our own adaptation of it, however we tried to sing it in our own style but it sounded incorrect. Therefore we decided to carry on rehearsing for now and we scheduled a further rehearsal for us to improve the song and support each other in making sure we make the song sound original and appropriate for our own character.
When it came to performing our songs with the whole class and putting the performance together in an order, I feel like on problem we faced was the fluidity, not only between songs but during songs. To improve this we discussed the timing of the changes and making sure that we all felt relaxed in the songs so that we could portray our characters with confidence. I also feel that we have to make sure that everyone in the ensemble is clear on what they are doing, and to do that for this performance we had to make sure everyone was well rehearsed and that we supported those who weren't sure, but encouraging them. This was useful because it made the overall piece more effective.
Overall I found this lesson useful because I was able to work with Izzy to improve my confidence with Another One Bites the Dust, and our individual parts in that, and I also think that I was able to interact with everyone in the ensemble to ensure that the characters appear connected so that it was more appealing to the audience and interesting to look at. To improve I would like to make sure that I familiarise myself with Another One Bites The Dust so that I can make my own adaptations to it to suit both my own voice, and my interpretation of the character to match the ensemble song.
